Bernie Sanders Endorses Democratic Senate Candidate Angie Nixon in Florida

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon on Thursday. Nixon had defeated her well-funded opponent, Alex Windman, two days earlier. Sanders praised Nixon as a model for the future of the Democratic Party, highlighting her support for Medicare for All, medical debt forgiveness, and expanded childcare.

Now, Nixon will face a tough race against Republican Senator Ashley Moody. Sanders presented Nixon as an example of the Democratic Party’s future. In a statement released by Nixon’s campaign, Sanders said, “Angie has proven that organized people can stand up to and overcome the organized money of the wealthy and powerful.”

Sanders commended Nixon’s advocacy for Medicare for All, medical debt forgiveness, childcare expansion, and paid family leave. Nixon previously worked on the 2016 presidential campaign and has made the economic policies championed by Sanders a key part of her platform. However, she secured her primary victory without Sanders’ endorsement.
