India’s leg-spinner Karn Sharma has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket at the age of 38. He made the announcement after playing in a Uttar Pradesh T20 League match on Saturday, marking the end of his playing career. Karn has represented India in one Test, two One Day Internationals, and one T20 International. In domestic cricket, he has played 97 first-class matches, taking 270 wickets and scoring 2,866 runs.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Karn took 87 wickets in 90 matches, winning three consecutive titles with three different franchises: Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings. In 2018, he became the first player to win the IPL trophy in three consecutive years with three separate teams. He won the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, Mumbai Indians in 2017, and Chennai Super Kings in 2018, setting a rare record.
At the close of the 2014 IPL auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for INR 3.75 crore, which was the highest bid for an uncapped Indian player at the time. Following his retirement, Karn has expressed his intention to remain involved in the sport as a coach and in other cricket-related roles.
