Speaking briefly to the press at a White House event on Thursday, he reiterated the commitment to support Nepal, saying, “We have reached out to Nepal to offer any assistance required.”
Trump described the damage caused by the floods in Nepal as “extraordinary,” noting that powerful mudflows and torrents swept away robust and permanent structures as easily as toothpicks. He estimated that approximately 50 to 60 US citizens could be affected in the disaster zone, adding, “We do not yet have a complete list of all Americans impacted.” Meanwhile, US media outlet CNN, citing the State Department, reported that 90 American nationals remain unaccounted for following the floods.
Former White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt emphasized that the safety of American citizens in Nepal has been a priority for the US administration from the outset. She stated that the US government has already offered support and assistance to Nepal, with President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio prioritizing the rescue of Americans in the country. The US State Department continues to closely monitor the situation on the ground. Additionally, the US has pledged emergency aid worth 500,000 US dollars through Catholic Relief Services.
