From September 4 to 6, four teams from Nepal — two men’s and two women’s teams — will compete in the Kavha Beach Volleyball Tour held in Thimphu, Bhutan. The Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) held a send-off program at the National Sports Council Hall on Tuesday to bid farewell to the Nepali teams who are scheduled to depart for Bhutan on Wednesday.
In the men’s category, the teams comprise Mahendra Shrestha–Rajkumar Niraula and Jhoman Singh Darji–Sharan Karki. For the women’s category, the teams include Kamala Pun–Kopila Rana and Sunita Rai–Bhavana Dangi. The competition is taking place in Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city, and all four Nepali teams will participate.
During the formal farewell program at the National Sports Council Hall in Tripureshwor, Ram Charitra Mehta, Secretary of the Recreation, Physical Education and Sports Department (RAKEP), wished the teams the best for their performance in the tournament. The teams will leave for Bhutan on Wednesday.
According to Roshan Shrestha, General Secretary of the Nepal Volleyball Association, the Kavha Beach Volleyball Tour takes place from September 4 to 6. He reiterated that two male and two female teams will compete. The team is being coached by Shriram Bogati, with Jitendra Shrestha acting as the team manager.
Previously, at the Kavha Beach Volleyball Tournament held in Bhutan, Nepal’s women’s team won the gold medal while the men’s team secured silver. Jitendra Chand, President of the Nepal Volleyball Association, explained that with only two players per team in beach volleyball, it is easier to play in smaller spaces and is more affordable and accessible compared to indoor volleyball. He also urged the inclusion of beach volleyball in the upcoming Dashain National Volleyball Tournament. Chand expressed confidence that the two Nepali women’s teams will deliver outstanding performances in this year’s Kavha Beach Volleyball Tour.
Bharat Bahadur Shah, Vice President of the Nepal Volleyball Association, highlighted the successful achievements in previous years and noted that the future of beach volleyball in Nepal is promising. He mentioned that Nepal had previously won championships, with the women’s team capturing gold and the men’s team securing silver medals last year.
