Nepali Wushu Athletes Rita Thakulla and Rohit Chunaro Exit in Opening Round of 20th Asian Games

At the 20th Asian Games, Nepali wushu athlete Rita Thakulla was defeated in her opening match of the women’s 60 kg weight group by Turkmenistan’s Joreyeva Merjen. In the men’s 56 kg weight group, Nepal’s Rohit Chunaro lost to China’s Xiaming Ou by a win by point difference. Among the 10 Nepali athletes participating in wushu, none have advanced to the second round so far. Four players have already been eliminated from the competition.

Kathmandu, 5 Ashoj – In the wushu competition at the 20th Asian Games, Nepali athletes Rita Thakulla and Rohit Chunaro were defeated in their opening matches and consequently eliminated from the event. The women’s 60 kg group match, held at the Martial Arts Hall in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, saw Rita suffer defeat against Turkmenistan’s Joreyeva Merjen.

In the men’s 56 kg weight group, Nepal’s Rohit competed against China’s Xiaming Ou but lost due to a win by point difference (a margin of more than 12 points). So far, no Nepali athlete has succeeded in reaching the second stage of the wushu competition.

Previously, Vijay Sinjali, Hariprasad Gole, Susmita Tamang, and Savita Rai were eliminated from the competition. Rajiv Tamang, Amar Sunar, Sanjiv Maharjan, and Deepak Hamal will continue their participation in the ongoing matches.
