With the aim of building new sports infrastructure, the memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday in the presence of Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction E. Rabindra Bohara, and Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Ramcharitra Mehta. Minister Pokharel outlined the plan to create sports infrastructure at 27 sites throughout all seven provinces. He stated, “We have taken a step forward toward the long-held dream of producing athletes from the grassroots level.”

Minister Pokharel expressed confidence that the new infrastructure would help increase interest in sports among students from the school level onward. He explained that, in line with the government’s plan to invest in grassroots sports infrastructure, the memorandum of understanding was signed to facilitate the construction of new facilities. He added, “Due to inadequate sports infrastructure in various provinces and districts of Nepal, the country has been unable to produce athletes from the grassroots level.”

Ramcharitra Mehta, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, emphasized that the partnership aiming to build state-of-the-art new sports infrastructure will significantly contribute to the development of sports. The government’s current fiscal year’s budget includes allocations for constructing new sports facilities, as well as for their maintenance, repair, reconstruction, upgrading, and strengthening.
