Iran Maintains Ongoing Dialogue with Relevant Countries Regarding Aviation Sanctions
Iran has clarified that it has no plans to take military retaliatory action in response to recently imposed aviation sanctions. The Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has emphasized that serious and continuous dialogues are underway with the involved countries to lift what it considers unjust restrictions. The council indicated that if necessary, non-military responses remain an option, and diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue are ongoing.
On October 2 (September 11 in Nepali calendar), Tehran (RASA/Xinhua) – The Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a statement on Saturday clarifying that some of the recent remarks made by Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaee concerning aviation-related matters have been misrepresented in certain contexts. This clarification came after various questions arose about Iran’s potential responses.
The council stressed that claims suggesting Iran would undertake military action in response to the aviation sanctions are unfounded. It also highlighted that serious and continuous dialogue is in progress with the countries imposing some of the sanctions that Iran considers unjust. According to the council, in dealing with parties cooperating in enforcing the sanctions, non-military response options are available if deemed necessary. However, the council expressed Iran’s preference for avoiding such circumstances.
Previously, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to ban Iranian airlines worldwide starting Wednesday. He also warned that companies providing services such as fuel, landing assistance, or ticket sales to Iranian aircraft could face U.S. sanctions. Following the enforcement announcement, Rezaee spoke with Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB on Wednesday, urging neighboring countries, in particular, not to participate in implementing the sanctions. Through this recent clarification, Iran has reaffirmed its ongoing engagement in dialogue and diplomatic efforts with the involved nations to seek a resolution regarding the aviation restrictions.
