October 12, Butwal – The second edition of the Madan Bhandari Cup International Invitational Running Shield Men’s Volleyball Competition starts today in Butwal. Prior to the tournament, the trophy was unveiled Monday morning at the Butwal International Conference Center.
Deputy Mayor of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City, Savitra Aryal, unveiled the trophy and stated that this international volleyball event will help put Butwal on the map as a sports tourism destination.
According to Dhruv Acharya, President of the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari will inaugurate the tournament at 3 PM today. The competition, running until October 17, will feature eight teams in total: five domestic and three foreign.
Representing Nepal are Nepal Police Club, APF Club, Manimukund Volleyball Club, Sabapokhari Volleyball Club, and Galkot Volleyball Club. The international teams include Gujarat State Volleyball Association and Khaira Club from Punjab, India, and the Sri Lankan Police team.
The champion will receive the running shield along with a prize of NPR 700,000, while the runner-up will get NPR 350,000, the third-place team NPR 175,000, and the consolation team NPR 75,000. All will also receive trophies, medals, and certificates.
Additionally, the best player will be awarded NPR 15,000, and the top spiker, setter, server, blocker, defender, and coach will each receive NPR 8,000 in cash and recognition. The player of the match in each game will earn NPR 5,000, organizers stated.
The trophy unveiling ceremony was attended by Bharat Shah, Vice President of the Nepal Volleyball Association; Mohan Regmi, Vice President of Madan Bhandari Sports Academy; Ganesh Thagunnal; and other officials.
