Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Yemen with Nearly Two Thousand New Displacements

The Yemeni government has reported that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to escalating tensions in Yemen has reached approximately 198,000. The camp management unit for internally displaced individuals in Yemen confirmed that, as of Wednesday, a total of 197,906 individuals have been officially registered. These displaced persons belong to 29,519 families.

The unit stated that ongoing military tensions, direct shelling, and deteriorating security conditions have led to an increase in forced displacement incidents, which have become more severe. These circumstances pose significant threats to the lives and safety of ordinary civilians. The highest number of displaced people are in Taiz province, where more than 97,000 individuals have been uprooted. This is followed by Lahij province, which has over 50,000 displaced individuals. Previously, UNICEF had reported that approximately 134,000 people were internally displaced within Yemen.
