Preparations Begin for 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asian Sub-Regional Qualifiers in Malaysia

October 3, Kathmandu – The Asian sub-regional qualifiers for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 are set to commence in Malaysia next week. Two sub-regional tournaments, labeled Qualifier ‘A’ and Qualifier ‘B,’ will be held from October 5 to 14. A total of 13 teams will compete in each event. The 36 matches will take place at three venues in Malaysia: Bayuemas Oval, UKM Oval, and STC Oval.
In Qualifier ‘A’, the participating teams are Bahrain, Bhutan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Myanmar, Qatar, and Thailand. Qualifier ‘B’ features Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore. Both tournaments will follow a single round-robin format. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next stage of the Asia qualifiers scheduled for 2027.
Mohinda Valipuram, President of the Malaysian Cricket Association, described hosting these tournaments as an honor. He emphasized that these competitions provide an opportunity to showcase the growth, talent, and aspirations of Asian cricket. All matches will be broadcast live worldwide via ICC TV, and fans in India can watch the games on FanCode.
The opening matches of Qualifier ‘A’ on October 5 feature Myanmar versus Bhutan, Thailand versus Bahrain, and Kuwait versus Qatar. Qualifier ‘B’ begins on October 8 with Maldives facing China, Saudi Arabia playing Singapore, and Malaysia competing against Hong Kong.
