Protests Continue at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi Demanding Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner

File photo, 4 October, Kathmandu: Protests demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continued today at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students Association, has called for a gathering at Jantar Mantar at 1 PM on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Abhijeet Deepke, founder of the Kakroch Janata Party (CJP), announced plans to hold a demonstration on this issue in Delhi on 10 October. Earlier on Friday morning, supporters of opposition parties and leftist student organizations assembled at Jantar Mantar, despite Delhi police denying permission for protests at the main site.

Curfews under Indian Penal Code Section 144 were imposed in various parts of New Delhi as a preventive measure. According to news collector Dilnawaz Pasha, police detained hundreds of protesters before they could reach Jantar Mantar on Friday.

Meanwhile, the CJP also organized a protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
