Mental Health Challenges and Solutions for Teachers Affected by Floods

What mental health impact do floods have on teachers, and what solutions can be implemented? Efforts have begun to reintegrate children from areas affected by the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli floods into regular schooling. However, some of the teachers involved in this process have themselves been affected by the floods. Experts emphasize the need to not only provide basic education at schools located in safe buildings and temporary holding centers but also to pay close attention to the mental health of teachers in the affected regions.

In this regard, we spoke with Dr. Sandesh Dhakal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Tribhuvan University, about the psychological impact of disasters on teachers and possible solutions. Listen to the conversation between Pratiksha Khanal and Dr. Dhakal for the ‘BBC Haatemalo’ program.
