Kakroach Party’s Protest at Jantar Mantar from Tomorrow Denied Permission by Delhi Police

The Kakroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar starting tomorrow, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of the Election Commission of India. However, the Delhi Police have yet to grant permission for the demonstration. Opposition parties have extended their support to CJP’s protest. Prior to the event, the Delhi Police have decided to close the entry and exit points of 57 metro stations. Additionally, according to Indian Railways’ directive, train services from New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations will be suspended for 10 hours.
During a press conference on Friday, Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad informed that the police had received an application for the protest from CJP co-coordinator Saurabh Das. She explained that the request was considered at short notice, whereas regulations require a minimum of 10 days’ advance notice to hold any protest. Prasad further stated that although CJP had been granted permission to hold protests at the same location in the past, the party had failed to comply with legal directives and commitments. She said, ‘Considering these factors, permission has not been granted for this protest.’
Prasad added that Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code is in force in New Delhi, imposing necessary restrictions to maintain public order and security. A warning was issued that legal action would be taken against anyone violating these restrictions. Nevertheless, CJP has resolved to proceed with the protest. The party also accuses the police of unlawfully detaining its supporters. CJP founder Abhijit Deepke posted on the social media platform X, stating, ‘Ahead of our protest on October 10, the BJP government has detained thousands of youths across the country. Modi, your attempts of intimidation will not succeed. The youth of the nation no longer fear you. I will arrive in Delhi tomorrow and march to Jantar Mantar regardless of the circumstances.’
Reports indicate that approximately 7,000 security personnel will be deployed, with at least 70 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed in Delhi ahead of the protest. Each CRPF company comprises around 100 personnel. These units, currently posted in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, will be sent to Delhi prior to the demonstration. CRPF units in Chhattisgarh have been instructed to remain in full operational readiness, equipped with necessary gear, weapons, and ammunition. This deployment is being conducted under the direction of the Home Ministry. Extensive security arrangements are being established around Jantar Mantar and its vicinity in anticipation of the protest. The CJP is calling for the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing irregularities during the special intensive review (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
