Strict Security Measures Implemented in Delhi to Prevent Cockroach Party Demonstration

October 11, Kathmandu – In Delhi, stringent security measures have been enacted to prevent a demonstration called by the Cockroach Janata Party demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. As a result, 45 stations of the Delhi Metro network have been closed, and at least 245 train services from New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations have been cancelled. Mobile internet services have been suspended in large parts of Central Delhi, according to reports from The Indian Express. Security has been tightened on main roads and surrounding border areas of the capital, with barricades installed to restrict movement.
“The government has imposed a strict security cordon in Delhi in anticipation of the protest planned for Saturday,” the report stated. Along with the Cockroach Janata Party, groups including the All India Students Association had called for the demonstration demanding the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation. By Friday evening, a total of 30,000 police officers and paramilitary personnel were deployed across Delhi to prevent the protest. The city is under a security regime unprecedented in its strictness. The Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan issued letters to all states and union territories informing them of the government’s ban on Saturday’s assembly. Deputy Superintendent of Police officers have been directed to coordinate with local police to maintain law and order and protect critical infrastructure while focusing on preventing any potential incidents.
Meanwhile, opposition political leaders met with President Droupadi Murmu on Friday evening. They submitted a memorandum alleging ‘vote theft,’ holding the Election Commission and the central government responsible. In the Lok Sabha, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi announced plans to also submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Monday regarding the issue.
