Prime Minister’s Cup in Birgunj Disrupted Due to Rain

March 20, Birgunj – The Prime Minister’s Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament, currently underway at Narayani Stadium in Birgunj, was interrupted by rain during the match between Karnali Province and Lumbini Province.

Lumbini Province won the toss and elected to field, inviting Karnali to bat first. The match was halted with Karnali having scored 20 runs in 7 overs. Karnali openers Ravindra Shahi and Sunil Dhamala were at the crease with individual scores of 9 and 7 runs, respectively.

For Lumbini, bowler Sandesh Thapa conceded 12 runs in 4 overs, while Rajendra Bam gave away only 8 runs, including one maiden over, in 3 overs.

This edition of the Prime Minister’s Cup is being hosted across three locations: two venues in Madhesh Province and the Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu. According to Subas Jayswal, Treasurer of Nepal Cricket Association Madhesh Province, a total of 19 matches are scheduled in Birgunj, 17 in Janakpur, and 10 in Mulpani.

Due to preparations for the ICC World Cup League 2, no matches are being held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur this time. All games originally set there have been relocated to Mulpani, the Cricket Association has confirmed.

In this month-long tournament, 10 teams comprising three departmental sides and seven provincial teams are competing. The champion will receive a cash prize of 1 million rupees, while the runner-up will be awarded 500,000 rupees. The defending champions are Nepal Police Club.
