Purn Bahadur Khadka Alleges Violation in Proportional Candidate Selection, Preparing to Approach Court

Leader Purn Bahadur Khadka has alleged irregularities in the Nepali Congress’s selection of proportional representation lawmakers. Khadka also informed that Man Bahadur Nepali, nominated under the Dalit quota on the proportional list, has already approached the court. Purn Bahadur Khadka, a prominent leader of the Nepali Congress, briefed that the party’s founding faction acted against established rules. Addressing his faction’s leaders at Hotel Smart in Dhumbahari, Kathmandu, he claimed that the proportional representation selection process was violated. “The special general convention contravened regulations. Vidya Timilsina, who was first on the list from a marginalized area, was removed, and Kali Bahadur Sahakari, a male candidate with no recognition in the cluster belonging to the Khasiya Arya quota at number 7, was placed instead,” he stated during the meeting. “Our candidates have taken the matter to court.”

Khadka also revealed that Man Bahadur Nepali, a candidate under the Dalit quota on the proportional list, has already petitioned the court. “Man Bahadur Nepali from the Dalit quota has also gone to court,” Khadka said during the meeting. After the special general convention held on Magh 1, resulting in the selection of new leadership by the group including former general secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, infighting within the Congress has escalated. Currently, the outgoing Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Shekhar Koirala are united in opposition to the special faction, engaging in continuous joint discussions. Meanwhile, party central spokesperson Devaraj Chalise has cautioned this separate group to adhere to party discipline.
