Golf star Tiger Woods has declined the offer to captain the US team for the upcoming Ryder Cup. The 50-year-old Woods was recently arrested in Florida on charges of driving under the influence following a car accident. He has stated that he will focus on his health and take a break from professional golf for treatment.
Through his lawyers, Woods has also pleaded not guilty. After the accident, he faced charges including reckless driving, property damage, and refusal to submit to testing. The court has permitted him to travel abroad for treatment. The PGA of America has respected Woods’ decision and wished him well in his recovery.
The 2027 Ryder Cup will be held in Ireland. Woods has played for the US team eight times in previous Ryder Cups. Police reported finding prescription painkillers (hydrocodone) in Woods’ possession after the accident and stated that he was not in a normal state. Due to serious past injuries and surgeries, Woods has participated in tournaments on a limited basis before. He is now preparing to travel abroad confidentially for a specialized treatment program.
