Home Ministry Forms Committee to Investigate Rolpa Jeep Accident

April 30, Kathmandu – The Home Ministry has established a four-member committee to investigate the jeep accident in Rolpa on Thursday that claimed 20 lives. According to a statement issued by the Peace, Security, and Crime Control Division of the ministry, the committee was formed by a secretary-level decision.

The jeep, carrying passengers traveling to attend a fair in Jaljala, Rolpa the next day, met with an accident on the rough road stretch at Salyap, Thawang Rural Municipality-1 in Rolpa. Police have confirmed that 20 people lost their lives in the accident.

Heavy rainfall persisted throughout the day in the area, and the jeep fell far below the road, making rescue operations challenging, police said. Rescue efforts were halted in the evening, according to local police reports.

The Home Ministry informed that a four-member committee has been formed under the coordination of Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal from Lumbini Province Police Office, Tulsipur. The committee has been tasked with conducting a study and submitting a report within three days.

Members include Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Virendravir Bishwakarma, Chief of District Police Office Rolpa; DSP from Armed Police Force Rolpa; and the Administrative Officer from District Administration Office Rolpa. The committee has been directed to identify the causes of the accident, determine any negligence or fault involved, and recommend necessary measures to reduce such incidents in the future.
