21 Baisakh, Kathmandu – Vote counting is underway for the assembly elections in India’s West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. Initial counts indicate a tough competition between the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance in West Bengal. Voting in West Bengal took place on April 29.
In the Falta assembly constituency located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, re-polling will be conducted at all 285 polling stations. According to PTI, the Election Commission ordered the re-polling after finding ‘serious irregularities’ during the April 29 voting and incidents that affected the democratic process.
Given the significance of this election in the political landscape, even the Indian stock market has started showing signs of volatility. Analysts predict further fluctuations in the stock market as results from the assembly elections become clearer.
