PhD Required for Vice-Chancellor Positions Despite Membership Not Being Mandatory: Recommendation Committee

The recommendation committee has announced calls for applications for vacant vice-chancellor positions at eight universities. The expert subcommittee will evaluate candidates based on qualifications, research experience, and presentations. Applicants must have at least 10 years of research experience and must not be affiliated with any political party. There are also provisions to reject applications if necessary. To fill the vacant vice-chancellor posts at eight universities, the recommendation committee issued a call for applications on Friday. Following the implementation of the ordinance, vice-chancellors were relieved of their duties, and the committee is now proceeding with the appointment process through open competition. Prime Minister and Chancellor Balen Shah formed a three-member recommendation committee chaired by Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel.
The committee has invited applications for vice-chancellor positions at Tribhuvan University, Purwanchal University, Pokhara University, Lumbini Buddhist University, Agriculture and Forestry University, Mid-Western University, Sudurpaschim University, and Rajarshi Janak University. Applicants have been given ten days to submit their applications. The expert subcommittee will conduct an initial evaluation by studying candidates’ academic qualifications, research experience, strategic work plans, and presentations, announcing a shortlist of the top 10 candidates based on scores.
