April 11 (29 Baishakh), Kathmandu – Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has accused certain elements in society of attempting to criminalize the revolution, despite the widely recognized achievements it brought.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Prachanda recalled that he had described the then Prime Minister, now incumbent, as the “flower of the republic” during the Kathmandu mayoral election.

“I called you the flower of the republic. The responsibility to complete the peace process now lies more with you than with me. If the gun we raised against feudalism had not opened doors, how else would representatives from oppressed communities have entered to become ministers?” he said. “Regardless of party, I believe I have the right to take pride in inclusive and proportional representation.”

Recalling the Madhesi campaign that took place after the peace process, Prachanda added, “Along with the peace process, we launched a campaign to proudly assert Madhesi identity in Kathmandu’s walls. Never before had Madhesis made such a fearless claim of identity and self-respect within Kathmandu.”

Referring to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s political ascent, Prachanda said, “Balen Shah started as the Mayor of Kathmandu and today has become the Prime Minister of the country. The party may be different, but for me, this is the success of the revolution’s resolve.”
