Russian President Putin and UAE President Discuss Iran Conflict and Middle East Developments in Phone Call

May 17, Kathmandu – Russian President Vladimir Putin and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation addressing the Iran conflict and recent developments in the Middle East. According to the Kremlin, both leaders emphasized the need to continue political and diplomatic dialogue to establish peace.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the phone call on Saturday covered recent events in the Middle East and their impact on regional and international peace and security. They also exchanged views on freedom of navigation, energy security, and the effects of this crisis on the global economy. During the discussion, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and joint efforts to further strengthen their strategic partnership.
Putin expressed gratitude for the UAE’s ongoing mediation efforts in facilitating prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. He also praised the UAE’s positive contribution to addressing humanitarian issues related to the Ukraine conflict.
Tensions between Iran and the UAE have escalated amid the ongoing war involving the United States and Israel. The UAE has accused Iran of repeatedly attacking its territory during the conflict. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi alleged that the UAE is an active partner of the US and Israel and is directly involved in attacks against Iran. The UAE, however, dismissed these accusations as attempts by Iran to justify its own aggressive actions.
