MP Pant Calls for Formation of Investigation Committee into Clash at Hari Khetan Campus

National Socialist Party MP Hari Pant has demanded the formation of an investigation committee to look into the clashes at Hari Khetan Community Campus in Birgunj. He reported that after amendments to the campus constitution, the institution is moving towards privatization, leading to daily confrontations and processions. It has also been reported that some staff members are currently in police custody on allegations of mistreatment by campus authorities.

On June 6, in Kathmandu, MP Hari Pant addressed the House of Representatives, urging strict adherence to the community campus constitution and continuation of the academic curriculum accordingly. According to him, the campus was established in 1983 BS (Nepali calendar 038), currently hosting around 4,000 students along with 150 professors and staff members.

Highlighting that thousands of students’ futures are uncertain due to the clashes, he appealed to the government’s attention. He added that following the amendment of the campus constitution, the campus has been increasingly leaning towards privatization, causing ongoing daily conflicts and protests. Additionally, he informed that several staff members are under police custody on allegations of mistreatment by campus officials.
