
The government has refunded the savings of an additional 304 small depositors from troubled cooperatives. The Management Committee for Troubled Cooperatives disbursed the funds to 88 depositors of Agricultural Cooperative and 216 depositors of Shiv Shikhar Multipurpose Cooperative. The committee plans to refund savings to approximately 76,000 depositors totaling 4.6 billion NPR, prioritizing small depositors with savings under five lakh NPR. Kathmandu, 6 Jestha.
According to the committee, today 88 depositors from Agricultural Cooperative and 216 from Shiv Shikhar Multipurpose Cooperative received their savings back. Previously, the committee had refunded amounts to 378 small depositors—215 from Kantipur Cooperative, 156 from Shiv Shikhar Multipurpose Cooperative, and 7 from Pashupati Cooperative. The first phase focused on depositors with smaller savings balances.
The committee states that roughly 76,000 depositors of troubled cooperatives are entitled to about 4.6 billion NPR in refunds. Most of these are small depositors. Those with savings below five lakh NPR are categorized as small depositors, while those exceeding that amount are considered large depositors. Out of the total 76,000, the committee identified 18,000 as large depositors with balances above five lakh NPR.
