Stock Market Declines by 12 Points Amid Increased Trading Volume

On Thursday, the stock market fell by 12.36 points, with the NEPSE index closing at 2,742 points. Despite the decline, trading volume increased from NPR 382 crore to NPR 389 crore. Share prices of 72 companies rose, while 188 companies saw their prices fall, and all sector indices dropped by less than 1 percent.

Kathmandu, Jestha 7 – Following a 30-point rise the previous day, the stock market slipped by 12.36 points on Thursday, settling the NEPSE index at 2,742 points. Although the market declined, trading activity saw a slight upturn. The total turnover increased to NPR 389 crore from NPR 382 crore the day before.

The market remained in the red throughout the day. Prices rose for 72 companies, declined for 188, and stayed unchanged for 9 companies. Although all sector indices experienced declines, each sector’s fall was contained within 1 percent. Specifically, the declines were: Banking 0.57%, Development Banks 0.31%, Finance 0.21%, Hotel and Tourism 0.86%, Hydropower 0.68%, Investment 0.33%, Life Insurance 0.10%, Manufacturing and Processing 0.36%, Microfinance 0.50%, Non-life Insurance 0.42%, and Other Groups 0.31%. The Trading sector remained stable.

Bungul Hydropower saw the most notable price increase at 6.18%. Among the groups with significant price gains, debentures of banks and financial institutions led the list. On the other hand, Apara Lohorekha registered the highest decline of 14.95%. Other notable losses included Jhapa Energy down 8.12%, Mountain Hydro Nepal down 7.40%, and City Hotel down 3.80%.

The top five companies by trading volume were Aankhukhola Hydropower, Ridi Power, Bungul Hydropower, NRN Infrastructure, and First Microfinance.
