Nepali Women’s Volleyball Team Energized, Aims to Defeat India

Volleyball enthusiasts in Nepal are eagerly awaiting the international competition in the sport, as the Nepali women’s volleyball team prepares to perform at their best once again in front of their home crowd. According to the news summary, the Kavha Women’s Volleyball Championship, beginning Friday in Kathmandu, will see Nepal take on India in the opening match with aspirations of an outstanding performance. Nepali captain Niruta Thagunna expressed that playing on home soil with the support of local fans provides tremendous energy. Historically, there have been 10 matches between Nepal and India in women’s volleyball, with India winning 9 and Nepal securing victory once.

A new captain, an improved squad, and a fresh tournament mark this event. Yet the venue remains the same, the competition unchanged, and the support of the fans consistent. The Kavha Women’s Volleyball Championship, starting this Friday in Kathmandu, is set to reignite the passion for international women’s volleyball in Nepal. Fans are eagerly anticipating the competition while Nepali female players strive to deliver their best performances at home. Among volleyball tournaments hosted in Nepal, Kavha stands as the largest and most prestigious.

Led by captain Niruta Thagunna, the Nepali team comprises 14 players who represent not only the country but also enjoy strong support from television audiences. When Niruta made her captaincy debut against India two years ago, her outstanding performance helped Nepal achieve a historic first victory over India in women’s volleyball. This time, her role has evolved; in addition to spiking, she will captain the team as they face India in the opening match.

Not only the captain and team but also the Nepal Volleyball Association and supporters are filled with enthusiasm. The match between Nepal and India will commence at 3:30 PM at the Dasarath Rangasala Covered Hall in Kathmandu. This edition features six new players on the Nepali squad. Captain Niruta shared, “We have played India many times in the past, but this time we have strengthened our team with the goal of winning again and reaching the final.”
