EU High-Level Delegation Arrives in Nepal, Scheduled to Meet Prime Minister Shah on Tuesday

May 24, Kathmandu — A high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) to Nepal is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday. Prime Minister Shah, who has not previously met with foreign diplomats since taking office, has expressed his intention to hold a memorable collective meeting with the EU team tomorrow. The delegation, led by the EU Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, includes ambassadors and deputy mission heads from 22 member states.
According to an EU press release, “This is an important opportunity for dialogue with the Shah-led government and to reaffirm the strong relationship between the EU and Nepal.” The delegation consists of ambassadors and deputy ambassadors from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
The delegation will also meet with Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadkaraj Poudel, and Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Sasmita Pokharel on Monday. Veronique Lorenzo, head of the delegation, stated, “This visit clearly demonstrates the EU’s commitment to Nepal. We are here to congratulate the new government, reaffirm our support for Nepal’s development priorities, and explore new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, climate action, and multilateral issues. As Team Europe, we stand ready to work alongside Nepal to build a more prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive future.”
