Former U.S. President Joe Biden has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice to prevent the release of audio recordings and written materials from his private conversations with his biographer. This legal action relates to an investigation led by special investigator Robert Hur concerning the alleged mishandling of classified government documents by Biden. The recordings from conversations that took place in 2016 and 2017 have been presented as key evidence in this probe. Investigator Hur concluded that Biden read excerpts from a confidential diary to his author, Mark J. Zwonitzer. However, Biden has consistently maintained that he did not share any classified information.
During the investigation, Hur noted that Biden’s occasional lapses in memory made it difficult to establish intentional wrongdoing. The Justice Department is preparing to release redacted portions of these recordings to the U.S. Congress and the Heritage Foundation by June 15. The Heritage Foundation had requested these materials through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit. Neither representatives of former President Biden nor the Justice Department have issued an official response regarding this legal dispute.
