Dipendra Singh Airey, captain of the Nepalese T20I cricket team, has made history as the first Nepalese player to complete 100 T20 International matches. He set this milestone on Monday while sharing the field against Hong Kong in the final of the Asian Games men’s cricket qualifiers. Nepal won the toss and chose to field first. In his 100th match, Dipendra has scored a total of 2,213 runs including 1 century and 12 half-centuries, and has also taken 62 wickets.
Dipendra made his T20I debut in 2018 at Lord’s against the Netherlands. He holds the record for scoring 50 runs off just 9 balls and hitting 6 sixes in a single over. In September 2023, during the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, he set the record for the fastest half-century by scoring 50 runs off 9 balls with 8 sixes while 2 balls remained.
He has also captained at the Under-19 level and is regarded as a successful player in domestic competitions. In 2019, he led his team to victory in the Dhangadhi Premier League and subsequently captained the Sudur Paschim Royals to the finals in both editions of the Nepal Premier League. Currently, he is contracted to play in Canada’s Global T20, UAE’s IL T20, and Belgium’s EU T20 leagues.
