Students Protest in Siraha Demanding Compensation for Destroyed Mobile Phones

In Siraha, student organizations have staged protests demanding compensation after mobile phones forcibly collected during exams were destroyed. The District Administration Office of Siraha had submerged around 500 confiscated mobile phones and smartwatches in water, effectively destroying them. Students argue that destroying devices worth approximately 10 million rupees violates property rights and have called for an impartial investigation. May 8, Siraha.
Various student groups in Siraha jointly protested against the destruction of mobile phones and smartwatches seized during the SEE and Grade 12 examinations. Marching from Siraha Campus to the District Administration Office, they demanded fair compensation for the destroyed devices, justice for affected students, and an end to the violation of property rights.
The student organizations submitted a memorandum through the Chief District Officer to the District Administration Office in Siraha, urging an impartial inquiry, provision of compensation, and legal action against those responsible. The memorandum stated that the destruction of the devices contravenes the constitutional right to property.
The District Administration Office had destroyed about 500 mobile phones and smartwatches collected from examinees during the SEE and Grade 12 exams held in the past Chaitra month. According to officials, the devices included seven iPhones, 489 Android phones of various brands, and five smartwatches. The estimated market value of these devices exceeds 10 million rupees.
