Loan Limit Raised to NPR 1 Million for Electronic Transactions

Rastriya Banijya Bank of Nepal has increased the loan limit available through electronic means from NPR 500,000 to NPR 1,000,000. Micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs can now access long-term working capital loans of up to NPR 1 million through electronic platforms. Individuals with salary accounts can obtain loans up to NPR 500,000, while other individuals may receive a maximum of NPR 200,000 under this provision. Kathmandu, 25 Jestha – The central bank has raised the loan limit for electronic financing by revising the Electronic Loan Guideline 2078, doubling the ceiling from NPR 500,000 to NPR 1 million.

The central bank has also established additional facilitation measures for extending transaction-based loans electronically to micro, small, and medium enterprises. Through these measures, such entrepreneurs can conveniently access loans of up to NPR 1 million electronically. The guideline highlights the key roles of banks, payment service providers, and merchants in this arrangement.

When granting electronic loans, the central bank allows cooperation with technology service providers to analyze loans using transaction details, payment information, and other business-related data obtained via electronic means. The responsibility for risk management lies with banks and financial institutions, as specified in the revised guideline.

Banks and financial institutions may extend loans within the permitted limit to merchants affiliated with payment service providers. With the merchant’s consent, payment service providers can supply necessary business and transaction details to banks and financial institutions for loan analysis, a provision newly incorporated by the central bank.
