New Homes Handed Over to 73 Families Displaced by Rato Khola Floods

In Bhangaha Municipality of Mahottari, 73 impoverished and extremely vulnerable families displaced by flooding from the Rato Khola River were provided with newly constructed houses. These homes were built through a partnership between Good Neighbors International Nepal and the Dalit Society Upliftment Committee Nepal, at a cost exceeding NPR 10.1 million. The new housing directly benefits 375 flood-affected individuals across various wards of the municipality.

Jaleshwor, Mahottari, 31st Jestha – Today, 73 families rendered homeless by floods from the Rato Khola in Bhangaha Municipality received new homes. The devastating floods that struck on Ashoj 19 and 20 destroyed the houses of these Dalit, poor, and extremely vulnerable families. Supported financially by Good Neighbors International Nepal, the Dalit Society Upliftment Committee implemented an integrated community development project within the municipality, which involved providing construction materials and building houses for affected families.

At the program held in Tharutol, Bhangaha-4, the municipality chief, Sanjiv Kumar Sah, received housing certificates jointly from Good Neighbors International representative Tupendra Khulal and Dalit Society Upliftment Committee representative Rambhajan Mahto. The supporting organizations constructed one house in Bhangaha-1, three in Ward No. 2, eight in Ward No. 3, twelve in Ward No. 4, eight in Ward No. 5, twelve in Ward No. 6, eight in Ward No. 7, five in Ward No. 8, and sixteen in Ward No. 9. The integrated community development project reported that the 73 houses, built at a total cost of NPR 10,171,574, directly benefit 375 individuals.

During the handover ceremony, Municipality Chief Sah expressed gratitude to the organizations that supported the construction of houses for the Dalit, poor, and extremely vulnerable flood-affected families. He praised their contributions in vital areas such as education, health, sanitation, child rights, campaigns against child marriage, and income generation, and appealed for their continued support for the overall development of the municipality in the future.
