For the fiscal year 2083/84, the government has earmarked NPR 262 crore 74 lakh for renewable energy and energy efficiency. Of this, NPR 119 crore 74 lakh will come from the Nepalese government, while NPR 143 crore will be sourced from foreign aid. The programs for expanding renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency will be implemented through the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.
The budget covers electricity access expansion, promotion of clean cooking energy technologies, energy generation from waste, productivity enhancement, energy efficiency, green hydrogen development, capacity building for local and provincial governments, and environmental and social protection initiatives. According to the annual policy and program, off-grid solar, wind, and small hydropower systems will be expanded in areas not connected to the national grid.
The government has placed high priority on clean cooking energy technologies. The goal for the upcoming year is to expand clean energy technologies such as electric stoves, biogas, and improved cookstoves to approximately 250,000 households. Additionally, 10 institutional and commercial biogas plants and nine large-capacity waste-to-energy projects will be constructed. To promote energy efficiency, the government plans to conduct energy testing, establish energy-efficient model schools, and run programs targeting climate change mitigation and carbon trading.
