Harry Kane’s Second Goal Restores England’s Lead Against Croatia

Harry Kane has scored his tenth goal in FIFA World Cup history, equaling the record of 10 World Cup goals held by England’s all-time top scorer Gary Lineker. On June 16, in the FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Croatia, Kane scored his second goal of the game to put England back in front. The match, held at Dallas Stadium, saw Kane head home a corner kick from Declan Rice in the 42nd minute to give England a 2-1 lead.

This goal marked Kane’s tenth in World Cup tournaments, matching Gary Lineker’s record for England’s highest World Cup goal tally. Earlier in the match, captain Harry Kane had put England ahead in the 12th minute with a penalty. His initial penalty attempt was saved by Croatia’s goalkeeper Dominik Livaković. However, the penalty was retaken after Livaković was seen advancing off his line before the shot. Kane successfully converted the retaken penalty without error. The penalty was awarded after Croatia’s captain Luka Modrić fouled Noni Modućek.

Croatia’s Martin Baturina equalized in the 36th minute. Receiving a lay-off pass from Petar Šušak, Baturina scored an impressive goal from outside the penalty area to bring the score level at 1-1.
