Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf Responds to Trump: We Are Ready to Fight
June 22, Kathmandu – Talks aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran are ongoing in Switzerland. Amid these discussions, US President Donald Trump issued threats against Iran. In response, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator and parliament speaker, delivered a strong rebuttal.
On Sunday, President Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, stating, “If Iran fails to restrain Hezbollah from fighting Israel in Lebanon, the United States will take action.” Iran dismissed the warning as baseless and affirmed their readiness to confront any aggression.
Addressing Trump directly, Ghalibaf said, “What does he think? If his threats had any effect, would he still be in his current position? No matter what is said, the ultimate decisions rest with us.” Last week’s agreement between the US and Iran included provisions to cease hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, contrary to this condition, clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon have intensified. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, dozens of Lebanese civilians, including women and children, have died due to Israeli airstrikes.
Amid escalating tensions, the US announced a new ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah on Friday. Nevertheless, on Saturday, Iran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following renewed clashes and air attacks. However, according to BBC data, maritime traffic statistics indicate that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
