‘Dissolving the Provincial Assembly Is Only Rashwapa’s Political Stance and Cannot Be Changed Unilaterally’
Preparations are underway for the central committee member elections at Rashtriya Swatantra Party’s (Rashwapa) general convention. However, the extended duration of the convention has led to some inconveniences. The political documents passed at the convention have sparked national political debates. In this context, here is an interview with Shishir Khanal, Foreign Minister and a candidate for Rashwapa’s general secretary position:
“The voting process should have begun much earlier; why the delay now?” he was asked. He replied, “We are gradually managing technical aspects. The voting process will commence soon. Currently, candidates’ names are being registered (uploaded) onto the voting machines, which has caused some delay. This work is ongoing. The convention delegates are very enthusiastic about voting and eager for it to start. According to the latest information from the Election Commission, it will take a bit more time. However, I have not yet received any direct formal confirmation from the Election Commission.”
Regarding his candidacy for the central committee member position and the feedback from delegates, he said, “There is distinct enthusiasm and desire among the delegates. They want to see their preferred leaders elected as central committee members. Their eagerness to contribute to the institutional development of the party is very strong.” He also mentioned that the delay is due to technical reasons and there is no significant effort yet to reach a consensus. “Once the technical work is completed, voting will begin immediately.”
Expressing his aspiration for the general secretary post, he remarked, “Over the past four years, I have played a role in party building, reorganizing the party by incorporating various groups before and after elections. This is the recognition I am receiving. It is now time for the party’s institutionalization, and the challenge is to unite all groups and move forward together.” He also noted that the delegates’ eagerness is natural and efforts are underway to complete the voting at the convention as soon as possible.
