Nepal Telecom Develops Its Own Software, Focuses on ‘Vibe Coding’ Technology
June 25, Kathmandu – Nepal Telecom, the national telecommunications company in which the government holds 90 percent ownership, has launched an initiative to develop essential software internally to become a modern, digital, and customer-centric enterprise. Previously, the company relied on external sources for such software, but now it is prioritizing the development and implementation of various in-house software systems through its own technical workforce, according to company spokesperson Kamal Lamichhane.
This effort, initiated to automate, make transparent, and enhance accountability in internal processes, is expected to significantly improve the company’s governance and service delivery. For example, Nepal Telecom has implemented a ‘Procurement Management System’ across its central office, regional directorates, and all subordinate offices. Developed with consideration of Nepal’s Public Procurement Act provisions and practical needs, this software will play a crucial role in making the procurement process technology-friendly, transparent, and well-organized, Lamichhane explained.
Since all procedures from procurement plan formulation to bid invitation, contract, and monitoring will be handled digitally, administrative delays are expected to lessen, saving valuable time, the company noted. Additionally, a new software called ‘Duty Chart Management System’ has been developed for managing maintenance and operations of Nepal Telecom offices nationwide. This system makes it easy to instantly identify which technician is working at which office during which shift and what their responsibilities are. According to the spokesperson, providing contact details including phone numbers for staff on duty greatly facilitates quicker problem resolution, especially when telecommunications services are disrupted.
