Rainbow Disability Nepal held a National Costume Design Competition on Asar 12 to celebrate Pride Month. Kathmandu, 14 Asar. The competition, organized by Rainbow Disability Nepal (RDN), was successfully conducted on Asar 12, 2026, as part of Pride Month celebrations.
The organizers stated that the event aimed to creatively highlight diversity, inclusion, and the identity and representation of the sexual and gender minority (queer) community. Participants from various communities showcased their original costume designs. During the program, ten models representing different minority communities displayed national costumes designed by designer Armant.
These costumes, reflecting Nepali authenticity, diverse cultural identities, and inclusive values, attracted special attention. Certificates and appreciation awards were presented to various individuals and organizations during the event. Subsequently, participating designers presented designs based on creativity, originality, and inclusive concepts.
After evaluation by the judges, the best design was selected and the winner awarded. The event was held in collaboration with the American Himalayan Foundation, FJS International Limited, Queer Youth Group, Youth, and Plan International among other institutions. Participating designers conveyed art and creativity as mediums for social transformation. The organizers believe this competition will significantly contribute to increasing visibility, respect, and social acceptance of sexual and gender minority communities and persons with disabilities in Nepal.
