Sunmaya Budha Wins 120km Ultra Trail in Italy, Breaks 13-Year-Old Course Record, Sets New History
The event organizers declared Sunmaya Budha as the ‘New Queen’ of the La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail – 120K via their social media platforms, praising her balanced and strategic running. Nepali ultra runner Sunmaya Budha made history by winning the La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail in Italy. She completed the 120-kilometer course in 13 hours, 33 minutes, and 1 second, breaking a 13-year-old course record.
Kathmandu, July 29 – Nepali ultra runner Sunmaya Budha set a new record at the 120-kilometer race held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, finishing the course in 13 hours, 33 minutes, and 1 second. Previously, Caroline Chaverot of France held the record, completing the distance in 13 hours, 40 minutes, and 34 seconds in 2015. In the initial phase of the competition, Sunmaya competed closely with Australian runner Lucy Bartholomew. However, in the decisive stages, she increased her pace, gained the lead, and ultimately overtook her competitors in the final stretch to claim first place.
The organizers highlighted that Sunmaya Budha made history in Cortina d’Ampezzo by breaking a 13-year-old course record. Sunmaya hails from Patarasi Rural Municipality in Jumla district. This achievement has elevated Nepal’s stature in the international ultra trail running community, and she continues to receive widespread acclaim for her success.
