Dialogue Between the US and Iran Continues in Qatar

June 30, Kathmandu – Talks between Iran and the United States are underway in Doha, the capital of Qatar, as of Wednesday. According to a report by international news agency Reuters, these discussions are described not as direct negotiations, but as a ‘technical dialogue.’ Pakistan and Qatar are serving as mediators in these talks. On Tuesday, US Special Envoy Steve Bitkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, traveled to Qatar in preparation for the talks. They also met with Qatar’s Prime Minister. However, it has been reported that they did not participate in Wednesday’s session.

This dialogue carries particular significance following recent military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, on June 17, the US and Iran agreed on a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Subsequently, the first phase of peace talks between delegations of both countries was completed on June 21 in Switzerland. Although the war had been halted for a period, the renewed tension in the Strait of Hormuz has raised fears of a potential escalation in conflict. Both countries have accused each other of violating the ceasefire related to this incident.
