Nepal Oil Corporation has issued a warning to business establishments hoarding gas cylinders unnecessarily by creating an artificial shortage, stating that they will be strictly penalized. According to the corporation, although gas supply in the market has increased, hotels and restaurants have been found hiding more cylinders than needed. The corporation urges immediate sale of such gas to the general public and has stated that those who refuse to comply will face severe action under prevailing laws. Dated 28th Shrawn, Kathmandu.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the corporation announced that since 31st Asar, the sale and distribution of 14.2 kg gas cylinders have been ongoing, with about 20 percent more gas being imported and distributed compared to previous times, attracting attention to the matter. However, due to increasing complaints from consumers unable to easily access gas, monitoring was conducted. Based on complaints received via the corporation’s rapid response desk, market inspections revealed that some hotels, restaurants, and party palaces have been stockpiling gas cylinders beyond their needs.
As a result, the corporation has requested everyone to refrain from unnecessary gas stockpiling and, if any cylinders are held in excess, to promptly distribute them to consumers through the respective depots. The corporation has made it clear that those who disregard this notice will face strict legal action under existing laws.
