July 14 (29th Ashad), Kathmandu – The 14th Pushpalal Memorial National Senior Badminton Tournament sponsored by Lining has concluded group stage matches, finalizing the semifinal line-ups in both men’s and women’s singles categories.
The group matches held on Thursday at the covered hall of co-organizer YAL Sports Academy decided the winners and runners-up for men’s and women’s singles groups.
In the men’s singles Group ‘A’, APF player Kshitij Khanal emerged as group winner with three straight wins. Prince Dahal secured the runner-up position with two wins, advancing to the semifinals. Kshitij defeated Sunil Joshi of Nepal Police Club 21–9, 21–12, while Prince overcame Jeevan Acharya of the Police team 22–20, 21–16.
In Group ‘B’, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Praful Maharjan won all three matches to top the group, while Police’s Vishnu Kutuwal secured second place with two wins. In the decisive contest, Praful defeated Vishnu 14–21, 21–12, 21–17. In another match, APF’s Dewraj Rana beat Police’s Deepak Bohara 21–16, 22–20.
The men’s singles semifinals will feature Kshitij taking on Vishnu Kutuwal and Praful facing Prince Dahal for a place in the final.
In the women’s singles Group ‘A’, Nepal’s top-ranked player and Tribhuvan Army Club’s Rosila Maharjan topped the group with two wins. Police’s Shesna Shripali finished as runner-up with one victory. Rosila defeated Army’s Anumaya Rai 21–5, 21–7.
From Group ‘B’, APF’s Rihana Serchan won all three matches, finishing as group leader, while Police’s Nita Lamsal was the runner-up with two victories. In the match determining the group winner and runner-up, Rihana defeated Nita 13–21, 21–14, 21–12. In another contest, Citizens Bank’s Nangshal Tamang beat Army’s Amita Giri 20–22, 21–11, 21–10.
The women’s singles semifinals will see Rosila Maharjan take on Nita Lamsal, and Rihana Serchan face Shesna Shripal for places in the final.
The national-level event is organized by the National Badminton Association under the Nepal Sports Council. In the boys’ U-11 singles category, the quarterfinalists have also been finalized. Nepal Police players Birat Basnet, Surkhet’s Supren Shahi, Army’s Krimon Rizal, Imadol Badminton’s Dhan Narayan Shrestha, Nobel Environment’s Denis Thapa, Surkhet’s Mahir Babu Shripali, JBE’s Deep Tamang, and Kasturi Academy’s Pragyan Dhakal advanced to the final eight.
In the girls’ U-11 singles, quarterfinalists include Army’s Yumika Rai, Sindhupalchok’s Ridina Shrestha, Imadol Badminton’s Iryana Magar, Galaxy’s Yonjana Magar, Army’s Arksha Dangol, JBE’s Denisha Pradhan, Galaxy’s Archana Magar, and APF’s Rensha Shrestha.
