The team of mountaineers who had gone out of contact during their Mount Elbrus ascent has been successfully rescued, the Kabardino-Balkaria Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. “The rescue operation on Mount Elbrus was successfully completed. A team of eight climbers was caught in adverse weather conditions and located near the saddle. Upon reaching this location, specialists from the Ministry also found another group of six tourists who were similarly unable to descend on their own due to the bad weather. Rescuers evacuated a total of 14 individuals from both groups to the Azau Glade. They refused medical aid,” the ministry’s press service informed journalists. Previously, the Federal Agency for Tourism had reported that the initial group of eight climbers had lost contact during their climb. The mountaineers had registered their route with the emergency ministry in advance. Rescue teams experienced in high-altitude operations were deployed for their search and evacuation.
