22 Ashoj, Kathmandu – Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027, significant changes are expected in the Punjab Kings’ coaching staff. Following the departure of assistant coach Sairaj Bahutules and two other coaches from head coach Ricky Ponting’s team, the franchise has initiated the search for at least three new coaches. Fielding coach Brad Haddin and fast bowling coach James Hopes have both confirmed their exits from Punjab Kings. Both have recently informed the franchise management about their decisions.
The Australian former wicketkeeper Brad Haddin served as Punjab’s fielding coach, while former fast bowler James Hopes worked under Ponting’s leadership as the bowling coach. Both have taken on new roles in the Big Bash League (BBL). Ponting and Hopes shared a close professional relationship; Hopes joined Punjab Kings from Delhi Capitals a few seasons ago alongside Ponting. Haddin was part of Punjab’s coaching setup during Trevor Bayliss’s management.
The responsibility of selecting new coaches now rests on Ricky Ponting’s shoulders. The franchise plans to finalize the appointments before the IPL 2027 player auction, scheduled around mid-December.
