87 New Tuberculosis Cases Detected in Baitadi Amid Testing Shortfalls

March 24, Baitadi – Over the past year, 87 new tuberculosis (TB) cases have been identified in Baitadi district. Among the newly diagnosed, 66 are males and 21 are females, according to Khagendra Singh Karki, Information Officer at the District Health Office, Baitadi.

The Health Office had set a target to test 538 individuals for tuberculosis in the current fiscal year. However, only 203 people have been tested so far, with 87 confirmed cases of TB among them.

“Not reaching the testing target poses a significant challenge,” said Teerth Raj Bhatt, the head of the Health Office. He added that the office is accelerating TB identification efforts through health camps across various locations in the district. Campaigns such as the ‘TB-Free Municipality Campaign’ are also being carried out in municipalities like Surnaya Rural Municipality and Purchaudi Municipality.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 67,000 new tuberculosis cases are added annually across Nepal.
