The balance of payments summarizes the economic and financial transactions between residents and non-residents during a specified period. A surplus in the balance of payments indicates a net inflow of foreign currency from external sector activities, whereas a deficit would signify net outflows. This account aggregates the current account and the capital and financial account transactions involving non-resident entities.
Moreover, the high volume of remittances significantly contributes positively to the balance of payments position. In terms of US dollars, the balance of payments surplus increased from USD 229 million in the previous year’s corresponding period to USD 461 million currently. Concurrently, the current account stands at a surplus of NPR 552.85 billion in this period, substantially higher than last year’s NPR 197.30 billion.
