April 14, Kathmandu – A fugitive wanted under the Interpol red notice for a foreign employment fraud case has been arrested.
The arrested individual is 36-year-old Subas Lawati from Miklajung Rural Municipality-5, Panchthar district.
Coordinated by the Nepalese Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Lawati was apprehended there and repatriated to Nepal on Thursday for necessary legal proceedings.
He is accused of defrauding victims by luring them with promises of attractive salaries in foreign employment and falsely assuring placement in Serbia, collecting NPR 1,161,000 at different times into his bank account.
Following his evasion, an international search and arrest request was issued by the Nepal Police Headquarters’ Crime Investigation Department Interpol Division, which led Interpol’s General Secretariat to issue a red notice against him on August 11, 2025 (Nepali date: 2082 Shrawan 26).
He has been handed over to the Foreign Employment Department in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for a thorough investigation and further legal action, according to the Nepal Police Headquarters Interpol Division.
