
April 14, Kathmandu – The death toll from a severe storm that struck Uttar Pradesh, India, on Wednesday has risen to 104, according to recent reports. As per the latest update from a local disaster official, the number of fatalities has surpassed 100. Manoj Kumar, Special Duty Officer of the Uttar Pradesh Disaster Department, confirmed to media outlets that 104 people have died so far. Additionally, 52 individuals are injured, approximately 130 animals have perished, and 98 houses have been destroyed.
The intense storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall, hit Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, an area bordering Nepal’s Sudurpashchim province. The disaster caused extensive damage across the region, including collapsed walls, fallen trees, and the destruction of many thatched houses. The greatest human losses were reported in the Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Kanpur divisions. Specifically, Prayagraj recorded 21 deaths, Mirzapur 19, Fatehpur 11, and Kanpur Dehat 2.
In several districts of Prayagraj and Kanpur divisions, power outages lasted several hours due to fallen electricity poles and snapped lines. Furthermore, the agricultural sector in rural areas has suffered significant damage due to the storm.
