Dispute Over Lamkichuha Hospital Operations Disrupts Services; MP Khanal Calls for Consensus-Based Management

MP KP Khanal has expressed concern over disruptions in services at Lamkichuha Hospital in Kailali due to a dispute between provincial and local authorities regarding its management. He has urged both parties to engage in dialogue and mutually agree to restart hospital operations promptly, emphasizing that political conflicts in the health sector weaken public institutions and adversely affect citizens, underscoring the need for cooperation.
Kathmandu, 31 Baisakh – KP Khanal, the Member of Parliament from Kailali-2, raised objections over disturbances in the final phases of operating Lamkichuha Hospital caused by disagreements between the Sudurpaschim Province government and local government. He highlighted the ongoing protests and occasional lockouts stemming from the dispute between Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah of Sudurpaschim Province and Lamkichuha Municipality Mayor Sushila Shahi in an official statement, drawing public attention to the issue.
Khanal noted his serious concern regarding the situation and shared that he held separate meetings with both parties to seek resolution. He urged them to bring the hospital into operation promptly through mutual agreement and understanding, affirming his commitment to providing necessary coordination and support. Emphasizing that political disputes in critical areas like healthcare weaken public institutions and directly impact citizens, he stressed the necessity of cooperation between provincial and local governments.
Prioritizing hospital operations and the provision of quality health services, he called on both sides to resolve the conflict through consensus, cooperation, and coordination in his statement. Additionally, MP Khanal expressed readiness to provide policy and legal assistance from the federal government and appealed to political parties, civil society, and the media to support the resolution of the dispute and facilitate the hospital’s swift operation through broad-based consensus and collaboration.
