Addressing the ‘Everest Summiters Summit 2024′ held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Paudel described the conservation of the Himalayan region as a global shared responsibility, not just Nepal’s. He expressed admiration for the courage and determination of Everest climbers. The Presidential Breakfast and the climbers’ oath-taking ceremony, held during the summit, were depicted by him as symbols of national pride and broad responsibility.

Expressing serious concern over challenges caused by climate change, Minister Paudel urged the international community to remain vigilant regarding issues such as glacier melting and the loss of biodiversity in the Himalayas. He referred to the mountains as Asia’s ‘water towers,’ stressing that their preservation demands scientific cooperation and joint investment. He added, “The oath taken by the climbers reflects a collective commitment to preserving the Himalayan environment, respecting local culture, and practicing responsible mountaineering. Through the Ministry of Tourism, we are actively engaged in making mountaineering safer, improving rescue and emergency mechanisms, and empowering Himalayan communities to enhance their livelihoods.” Moreover, he highly praised the invaluable contributions of guides, Sherpas, rescuers, and tourism entrepreneurs in positioning Nepal as a global center for adventure tourism.
